Name: Big Horn Canyon: Kane Cemetery Talk
Date: August 16, 2019
Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM MDT
Event Description:
Kane Cemetery Talk

Friday, August 16 - From dust to mud, gone but not forgotten, all that remains are the memories and stories of the people who lived there. Join former Kane resident, Karen Spragg at 6:30 PM at the Cal S. Taggart Visitor Center, as she expertly tells us about the lives of the people and the town itself.

Established in 1912 Kane, Wyoming became a main stock shipping point for cattle and sheep. Though located in a place where the wind blew almost constantly, and there was nothing much but dirt and sagebrush, the little town grew to have a bank, two general stores, two hotels, a motel, a dance/pool hall, and a school. In 1965 near the completion of the Yellowtail Dam the BOR feared that the newly established Bighorn Lake would flood Kane. They condemned the land and bought it from the community.
