When Caroline Lockhart moved to her homestead north of Lovell in 1926, she was trying to enact in real life the sort of “happily ever after” experience she had described in her Western fiction. Though little-known today, Lockhart (1871-1962) in the 1910s wrote six novels in the 1910s, three of which were made into movies, and all of which culminated in the hero retiring to a cattle ranch. Lockhart based her novels on real-life experiences and vice-versa.
John Clayton, critically acclaimed author of the Lockhart biography The Cowboy Girl, will discuss the life of this fascinating woman as she lived and attempted to find her own happily ever after ending. John’s previous visit to Northwest College was well received, so we advise those with special seating concerns to arrive early. Notification of intent to attend will be appreciated, but is not required. Call 754-6469. Groups welcome.
