Event Description:
Learn more about the wonders of the alpaca, from the nose to the toes! This is a free entertaining and informative public program is offered by the Sapp family. They raise this domesticated species of South American camelid (similar to a llama) for their family business, Arrowhead Alpacas. General husbandry and upkeep information will be covered as well as breeding, health issues, shearing and fleece preparation. The alpaca?s value lies in its soft, luxurious fleece, which is great for producing all manner of fine yarn and garments, but the animal also provides meat, soil enhancements and more. Although this program is suitable for all ages, there will be photos of the birth process of a baby alpaca, so parental discretion is advised. Attendees will receive an invitation to Arrowhead Alpaca?s open house on Saturday, April 30. Notification by phone of intent to attend this program is not required but would be appreciated; call 754-6469.
