Name: First Night, Powell
Date: December 31, 2008
Time: 8:00 PM - 12:00 AM MST
Event Description:
The party, from 8 p.m. to midnight, will kick off Powell’s Centennial celebration with a bang — literally. The Powell Volunteer Fire Department will herald the new year with a big fireworks show launched from Coulter Avenue and Bent Street.

Craig Olson’s Orchestra will perform at The Commons. The younger crowd can rock out with a live disc jockey at “Club 100” located in Plaza Diane. Drinks will be available at both places.

Tickets are $30 per head and are available at Powell City Hall or at First National Bank.

A 50-50 drawing will take place New Year’s Eve, with all the money from ticket purchases tossed in the pot. One winner will take home half of the total, and the remainder will help pay Centennial Committee celebrations beginning next year. Nelson was not sure yet what the cost of 50-50 tickets will be, but she said the more tickets sold, the bigger the pot.

A “Centennial Hot Dog” will be served, if the wiener is ready for unveiling. The dog is sure to turn up at future Centennial celebrations, Nelson said.

A midnight brunch also is planned. The late-night meal will be provided by Aarmark Catering, Nelson said.

Volunteers to help set up prior to the party and clean up the morning after are welcome. Anyone willing to help can call committee Chairwoman Sharon Earhart at 754-3709 or City Hall at 754-5106.
