Homesteader Museum Reopens with Annual Meeting Program

Powell- Spring is blooming at the Homesteader Museum in Powell, and after several months of reorganization, research and cleaning, the museum opens its doors for the 2016 season with a playful and educational annual meeting program Saturday, April 2.

This year presentation is "Powell's First Decade: On the Lighter Side," a reader's theatre chronicling the pioneer town of Powell during its first 10 years.

Created by historian and farmer, Beryl Churchill, the program highlights some of the livelier stories that were not included in the 2009 Powell Centennial book.
"We tried to tell the serious story of Powell's first century in the book, but we left out many funny stories and anecdotes. However, those stories are part of Powell's history and give a person a sense of the real flavor of a town," said Churchill.

The Saturday presenters are Harriet Bloom-Wilson, Dave Bonner, Beryl Churchill and Rowene (Hanna the Homesteader) Weems, director-curator.

The program and a reception follow the Homesteader Museum's short annual membership meeting at 2 p.m. The public is invited to become a member the day of the program. For more information, contact Homesteader Museum, 754-9481.
