Event Description:
Lynn Richardson, Art that Inspires
Lynn Richardson was a long-time volunteer at Bighorn Canyon.  He passed away while helping a neighbor last year.  Bighorn Canyon and his friends have been working on a way to honor his service to the surrounding communities and to Bighorn Canyon National Recreation.  That work has led them to the “Lynn Richardson, Art that Inspires” event on August 11th and 12th.  This combines his love for the Lockhart Ranch and his love for the Arts.

Lynn started his volunteer service with Bighorn Canyon in 2014 as one of the parks first Artists In Residence.  During his time photographing the historic ranches and the night skies, he fell in love with the Lockhart Ranch. He was hooked.  Every year during the summer season, when Lynn was not volunteering his time with several other community programs, you could find him at the Lockhart Ranch giving tours.  He also took time to share his love for the park with every Artist In Residence who came after him.  He made it a point to take each one out on a tour and welcome them to the area.  Artist In Resident Jim Schlett remembered his tour with Lynn:

“We still have vivid memories of Lynn driving us around the park for several hours and sharing some of his photos and a calendar.  At one point while driving over that long bridge, a huge herd of cattle was coming down the other side and stopped traffic for about 20-30 minutes while he told stories.  He had a very through mind and gave us so many details about the park that we would have never known otherwise.”

Please join Bighorn Canyon staff and Lynn’s friends to honor Lynn’s service to Bighorn Canyon.  August 11th, the park will be hosting Art That Inspires Gallery opening and reception at the Lovell Visitor Center from 6-8 PM.  There will be a short presentation and light refreshments.  Powell Valley Community Education will be bringing a van from Powell.  If you would like a seat on the van, please call Christi Greaham at 307-754-6062.  The bus will leave Powell at 5:30 PM.

The event will continue August 12th, at the Lockhart Ranch from 10 AM to 2 PM.  Park Ranger Christy Fleming will conduct special tours of the ranch comparing Lynn and Caroline’s lives.  “I am not sure either would admit it, but they had many similarities. Community service was just one of them. Writing could have been another, but you will have to come on the tour to find out,” said Ranger Fleming.  Lynn’s photographs will be placed around the ranch for visitors to enjoy.  Artist In Resident Bobbie Brown will be on site giving art demonstrations and Lynn’s friends will be on site to share his love for the ranch.  Powell Valley Community Education will again bring a van from Powell.  If you would like a seat on the van, please call Christi Greaham at 307-754-6062.  The bus will leave Powell at 9 AM.
