The Vicksburg Campaign photo

Come and learn about one of the most decisive campaigns of the American Civil War. It took well over a year to force the surrender of the "Gibraltar of the South." Learn about the failed attempts to take Vicksburg, and how General U.S. Grant finally caused the city to capitulate. The loss of the Mississippi River would be devastating to the Confederacy. The course will be taught by National Park Service Ranger Shawn Williams, who has worked at the Vicksburg National Military Park twice during his career.
