Event Description:
On September 22, join the Buffalo Bill Center of the West's Exclusive Tours program to experience the stunning beauty and rich history of Cedar/Spirit Mountain under the expert guidance of Dave Leo, the owner of Hiking Buddy LLC.

Cedar Mountain contains far more than just geological tunnels and caves. It also contains an alleged grave of Buffalo Bill, holds the secrets to one of Wyoming’s original national monuments, and plays an important role in Native American history. This immersive, interactive, and enlightening journey is more than just a walk and will take us through time and the rich history of this remarkable area. Engage with your guides, ask questions, and take in the breathtaking views as we embark on a trek that brings history and geology to life.

It’s an intermediate hike which includes a 5-mile out-and-back trail, with an elevation gain of 1,500 feet. The trek averages about 5 hours with lots of stops planned to enjoy the scenery, learn some history, catch our breath, and grab as many photos as desired. It begins on a rugged Jeep-road that will get our hearts pumping as we ascend toward the awe-inspiring Spirit Cave.

After a rest at the mouth of Spirit Cave, we’ll make our way back down via various serpentine trails, offering new perspectives and experiences on the return journey. Lace up your trekking boots, bring your sense of adventure, and join the Exclusive Tours Team and Hiking Buddy on this unforgettable historical hike.

Starts from the Center of the West at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 22. We expect to return to the Center around 6 p.m. or a bit later.

Spots are limited and advance registration is required. Cost is $70 for Buffalo Bill Center of the West members and $75 for non-members. Shared transportation to the trailhead is available, and tickets to this program include complimentary trail snacks, water, and hiking poles for the duration of the event.
