Name: Understanding Infant Adoptions: Professional Training

Event Description:
Developed by the Infant Adoption Training Initiative (IATI), the Understanding Infant Adoption (UIA) training curriculum teaches healthcare professionals how to have confident and comfortable communications about adoption with women considering options for their pregnancies. This is a one-day FREE training for nurses, social workers, technicians, educators, physicians, and anyone whose health care or counseling profession serves pregnant women.

Topics covered include correct adoption language, the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), laws, and more. There will be interactive experiences that promote skills development, and exercises that promote awareness. The training will enhance understanding of a birth family and adoptive family as well as adoptee experiences. It will also illuminate resource materials to support the provision of information and making of referrals. Funding for this curriculum is provided from the U.S. States Department of Health. Lunch will be provided.
